Press Release Body = The Mayor of Limerick has praised Bank of Scotland (Ireland)
for bringing competition into the banking market in Ireland.

Speaking at the launch of the bank\'s new branch in Shannon Street last Friday, Mayor
Diarmuid Scully said there had been a \"lack of competition\" in the banking market in
Ireland.

\"You have probably done more to help ordinary businesses than any other decision
short of joining the European Union,\" he said.

He added that the opening of the branch was another step in the ongoing regeneration
of the Shannon Street area. Mayor Scully was one of a number of national and local
politicians who were present for the official opening of the branch last Friday by
the Minister for Defence Willie Q\'Dea.

Minister Q\'Dea congratulated the bank on its \"extraordinary I progress\" to date in
the Irish market, pointing out that one in five Irish businesses were now customers.

\"Today is the opening of just one of the network of 46 branches that the Bank of
Scotland (Ireland) intends to open over the next twelve months-the first completely
new retail banking network in Ireland for over a century,\" he said.

\"The banking sectors play a vital role at the heart of our country\'s economic life.
The substantial tax receipts generated by banks, such as Bank of Scotland (Ireland)
helps us to provide our public services,\" he added.

The new branch will be managed by Declan Byrnes and will employ seven full time
staff, Johanne Kennedy (mortgage advisor), Catherine Costelloe, Evelyn Q\'Connor,
Suzanne Kerley, Jason Hollywood, Seamus McNamara and Caroline Kelly.

Shannon Street was one of the first of 46 branches that Bank of Scotland is due to
roll out nationwide in the coming 12 months.

The new branch will be open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12pm on
Saturdays.

Marie Hyland, director of the bank\'s retail network thanked Minister Q\'Dea for
cutting the ribbon.

\"Customers who come into out branch will see and experience a real dliference, right
through from the very helpful and welcoming staff to the value for money products
that we provide,\" she said. - http://www.limerickbiz.com
